How quickly can you tell if you are pregnant? The vast majority of women won’t notice marked changes in their body, until they are 3-4 weeks pregnant. For many women, the first indication that they may be pregnant, may be a missed period. Especially if they had sexual intercourse without using contraception. However, there are some signs that you may experience in the first few weeks of a pregnancy, which may predict that you’re pregnant.

How soon can you tell if you are pregnant?

If you plan to use a traditional pregnancy test to confirm whether or not you’re pregnant, you’ll need to wait 3 weeks from the date which you had intercourse. To be able to take an accurate pregnancy test. However, do keep in mind that if your pregnancy test is positive at 3 weeks, it’s well worth taking another pregnancy test 4 weeks after your presumed date of conception. To double check that your very first test was accurate.

If you plan on visiting your doctor or a gynaecologist to find out whether you’re pregnant, you’ll also need to wait three weeks, from the date which you had sexual intercourse, in order to take a blood test.

If you’re curious about how many weeks pregnant a woman has to be, for her foetus to be seen in an ultrasound, the answer is 4-6 weeks after the date of conception.

What are some common signs of pregnancy that you may experience in the first 3 weeks of pregnancy?

While a traditional pregnancy test, a blood test or an ultrasound won’t be able to confirm or deny that you’re pregnant until you’re three weeks along. There are a wide variety of common symptoms which you may start to experience in the first 3 weeks of a pregnancy.

If you feel abnormally bloated, have sore nipples, experience frequent mood swings and feel nauseous and exhausted, there is a very real chance that you could be pregnant. In which case you should wait, until 3-4 weeks after the date which you had sexual intercourse in order to take an at home pregnancy test or a blood test.

Another sign that you could be pregnant, which many women claim to experience in the first few weeks of their pregnancies is an increased sense of smell. If ordinary smells that you encounter on a daily basis, seem a lot of stronger, you could be expecting a child.

What to do if you think you’re pregnant:

Document your symptoms on a calendar or in a diary:

If it’s too early to take a pregnancy test but you’ve experienced some of the key symptoms of pregnancy which are listed above, get into the habit of documenting all of your symptoms on a calder or in a diary. Which you’ll be able to describe to your doctor.

Speak to your doctor:

Even if it’s too early to find out whether or not you’re definitely pregnant, it’s well worth booking an appointment with your doctor. So that you can discuss some of your symptoms with your chosen doctor.
